The Rotary Club of Lochaber

International & Foundation Committee

International Services and Rotary Foundation Committee 2010-2011 Report

Our achievements as a committee would be considerably less significant without the team effort of all the members and I would like to give my personal thanks to them and to John Doherty as Vice-convenor.

Rotary Foundation is the charity within Rotary which pays for Educational and Cultural Schemes and funds Humanitarian Grants. A percentage of each member’s annual subscription is given directly to the Rotary Foundation.

Our commitment is mainly to the Polio Eradication Campaign. The ‘Focus on Crocus’ initiative was designed to raise funds for polio and proved very successful with demand outstripping supply.

This year for the first time in the Club’s history, one of our members (John Hutchinson) was successful in his application as Team Leader for the Group Study Exchange visit to Japan. The proximity of the earthquake and tsunami to Ibaraki unfortunately led to a postponement of the visit.

In respect of International Service, we selected 3 charities to support. These were Wateraid and Mary’s Meals both of which provided speakers who attended Club meetings. The third charity is Bharat Vikas Parishad (BVP) in India which will be the basis of Hiresh’s talk on 25 May.

We have also had a Shelterbox on long term loan and in response to letters sent out to the town’s primary schools, members of the committee have given demonstrations to two schools. The box was also on display at the Lochaber Games and the Agricultural Show.

The committee was involved in a number of activities as shown in Table 1 which also indicates the funds raised with a net total £3228.13 The allocation of these funds is shown in Table 2.
