Glencoe helps orphanage in Tanzania
Bill Strachan, a member of Glencoe St. Mundas, recently returned to the orphanage in Arusha, Tanzania. All the 48 boxes of various items which were sent before Christmas arrived safely and were distributed to the kids and to some needy families.  The centre needs to move premises and this should be done sometime this month, February.   Bill is organizing with the aid of St Munda’s and the other local churches and the community, a coffee morning & sale on Saturday 23rd February. This will be held in Ballahulish Village Hall. It is hoped to raise enough money to pay for one year’s rent on new premises which Bill helped to negotiate for when he was there.  Everyone was very grateful for the gifts from Scotland and many people kept thanking Bill for them. The photo shows Bill with some of the street kids at the orphanage & drop-in centre.

A very successful coffee morning and sale was held in Ballachulish hall on Saturday 23rd February. Over £1830 was raised for the orphanage and street kids’ centre in Arusha, Tanzania. This was very much a community effort by the people of Duror, Glencoe & Ballachulish. All the churches in the area were involved and thanks go to all who manned the various stalls; served the tea & coffee; the individuals and companies who donated prizes and items for sale, and to those who came along and supported this deserving cause.  One of the organisers, Bill Strachan, a member of St Munda’s, said there was a great atmosphere in the hall. Everyone wanted to do something to make the morning a success – there was a great community spirit!  Bill recently visited the orphanage and can assure everyone that the money will be put to good use.

Kingairloch celebrates 150 years

On 28th October the culmination of the 150th anniversary celebrations of the erection of the Church building at Kingairloch took place at Kingairloch Church on 28th October 2007.
The Service of worship was conducted by the retired minister of the parish, Rev James Carmichael. A number of members and friends of the church also took part in the service reminding the congregation of past events which had taken place and the need for future visions for the parish.
The building was bustling for the occasion and the joyful congregation joined in heartily with the singing of hymns of praise to God for His faithfulness over the years.
Rev  James & Mrs Carmichael cut a celebratory cake at the conclusion of the service to begin more informal celebrations and reminiscences.
