St
Munda built his Church early in the 7th Century on the island in
Loch Leven that still bears his name, the burial island of the
Macdonalds, Camerons and Stewarts. The last service was held there in
1653. The present Church, situated in Ballachulish, was opened as the
Parish Church of Glencoe in 1890. During the summer months coffee and
biscuits are served at the close of worship.
Glencoe
helps orphanage in Tanzania
A
very successful coffee morning and sale was held in Ballachulish
hall on Saturday 23rd February. Over £1830 was raised for the
orphanage and street kids centre in Arusha, Tanzania. This was
very much a community effort by the people of Duror, Glencoe &
Ballachulish. All the churches in the area were involved and thanks
go to all who manned the various stalls; served the tea & coffee;
the individuals and companies who donated prizes and items for sale,
and to those who came along and supported this deserving cause.
One of the organisers, Bill Strachan, a member of St Mundas,
said there was a great atmosphere in the hall. Everyone wanted to do
something to make the morning a success there was a great
community spirit! Bill recently visited the orphanage and can
assure everyone that the money will be put to good use.
48
boxes of various items ranging from toothpaste to trainers were sent
to Arusha, Tanzania recently. The items were collected as part of a
community project to help the children in this large African town. St
Mundas Church in Ballachulish/Glencoe & Duror Church
collected items during their Harvest Thanksgiving celebrations. It
was very much a community event as the local primary schools also
held collections.

The
photo is one of the children at the orphanage enjoying some of the
goodies we sent to them recently.
Thanks
to the generosity of local people, the boxes were air freighted out
to Tanzania. Bill Strachan, a St Munda member, is returning to Arusha
in January and will give us an update on his return.
Christian
Aid
The
sum of £1,032.69 was collected from the Ballachulish and
Glencoe area this year. Well done. The money has been sent to the
organisation's Plant a Future campaign.
The
photo on the right is of the church display during the Harvest
Thanksgiving appeal which this year requested items for the Arusha
orphanage in Tanzania.
New
Kitchen Update
Almost
£20,000 has been raised so far. Contractors have been appointed
and we await the issue of a building warrant to enable work to start
- hopefully within the next month or two. Lynn
Brown, a Sunday teacher at St Mundas, recently climbed the Pap
of Coe. Although she runs the holiday complex at Invercoe with
her husband Iain just beneath the Pap, she had never climbed the hill
before. She was sponsored to do the climb to raise funds for
our new kitchen appeal. Here is a photo of Lynn on the summit.
She was accompanied by myself and her sister-in-law, Pat. A
great day out & a great achievement. Well done Lynn! Lynn
is the one in the hat.

In
the other photo is Shirley, Bill, Leanne & Michelle, not
forgetting Bodge the dog! The photo is the group which accompanied
Shirley on her sponsored pap climb. Shirley, along with Lynn who
climbed the Pap earlier in the summer, raised over £800 for the
new kitchen appeal fund. |
