Duror Parish Church

Service: 9.30 am

Minister: Rev Alison Burnside  Tel 01855 811 998

St Columba planted Kilcolumkill the first Church in Duror around 580 AD. In 1651 a new Kirk was erected - the ruins of it are still to be seen. The present Church was built by Thomas Telford in 1829.

Coffee/Tea is served in the Church Hall on a Sunday after worship. There is an informal Communion for anyone wishing to stay after morning worship on the second Sunday of each month (except Communion Sundays).

Stated Annual Meetings
The stated annual meetings of the two churches were held in March. Members of the congregations heard reports on the financial positions of the churches and reports from the respective Property, Sunday School, Guild and Presbytery elders. Duror also had a report on their Village Lunches.
The most exciting report was given by Rev Alison who relayed the good news that the Two Lochs Project had more than met its targets and that there is now enough money to guarantee Hazel’s job for three years!
Rev Alison also told us about her Return to Work programme and the plans for the manse. Hopefully the central heating will be replaced in the Manse and perhaps the windows at a later date.

DUROR COMMUNITY CHOIR
After some months during which we feared the choir might have to end due to lack of a conductor, we have been fortunate to find Terry Goodwin, from Ballachulish, who is willing to be our conductor/choir-master. The choir had an introductory meeting on 20th February, from which the feedback was enthusiastic. We hope to expand our repertoire, gradually, to include some secular songs as well as religious music, and to improve our singing skills without losing the great pleasure we all take in joining together to make music. Our next venture will be a Songs of Praise service, loosely themed around the Year of Homecoming, and this will be held on the evening of 23rd August. Weekly rehearsals will start in earnest on 29th June, at 7pm in

Duror Church Hall.
If you think you might like to join us, give it a try in an evening of singing for fun, on 27th April, 18th May, and/or 8th June, at 7pm in the Church Hall. All welcome, particularly altos and tenors!

DUROR GUILD
The theme for this year has been ‘He restores my soul’. Since the last edition of “The Link”, we shared our Christmas memories at the December meeting, and went to New Zealand with Janice in January.
In February, the discussion topic was Spirituality.
At our Open Meeting in March, the speaker was Mabel Wallace who is the Lochaber Presbyterial Council Convenor. She gave a most interesting illustrated talk on “Travelling Together”.
The AGM on 14th April will round off the 2008-9 session.
Coffee mornings continue on the first Wednesday of each month, at
10.30am in Duror Church Hall. The Guild members are very generous both in the produce they provide and in their time. We owe them all a very big thank you. The friendship and fellowship we share is invaluable to each one of us.
